The LDperformance CAN Data Logger is a user friendly device designed to capture real-time CAN bus data. Whether you’re tuning an aftermarket ECU, monitoring power distribution, or analysing vehicle dynamics, this data logger provides a reliable and efficient solution for recording critical data and viewing up to 8 parameters simultaneously.

Features

  • Logs CAN bus data to SD card continuously at 100Hz
  • Generates timestamped log files in text/CSV format
  • USB type B for easy firmware updates
  • Configurable CAN Bus Speeds – supports 1Mbps, 500kbps, and 250kbps, configurable through the device’s rotary knob
  • Intelligent timekeeping – the internal RTC clock with a rechargeable battery ensures accurate timestamps, even when the device remains unplugged for long periods.
  • Event marking feature – pressing the rotary knob inserts a marker into the datalog
  • Easy firmware updates via usb-B cable and drag & drop
  • High-quality SD card included
  • Optimised storage management – if the sdcard is full, oldest files will be automatically erased. A 32GB card is big enough for more than 20 days of continuous recording.
  • Intuitive display & customisation
  • Add new CAN devices effortlessly
  • Dimensions: 120mm x 40mm x 15mm

LDperformance CAN Data Logger also features 3.2″ OLED display, which can show all logged parameters grouped in different pages. You can scroll through them by turning the knob. Every page can be easily modified by pressing on a chosen parameter and picking another. There are different layouts to choose from. Each parameter’s decimal position or offset/range can be modified by editing the corresponding canx file.

Compatibility

LDperformance CAN Data Logger is compatible with all CAN bus devices, including:

  • Throttle & pedal positions from LDperformance Throttle controller
  • Output states and current for 8 channels of the LDperformance PDM
  • Oil pressure, temperature, EGT, GPS speed from LDperformance DASH2
  • All data from your aftermarket ECU
  • Any other CAN device if you have a canx file explaining the CAN IDs

Quick start

  1. Connect 12v and ground to power the device.
  2. Connect CANH and CANL wires to the other CAN devices.
  3. Put the SD card in a computer and copy the canx file for the
  4. CAN device you want to add to the canx folder on the sdcard.
  5. Insert the card in the datalogger and turn on.
  6. It will load all canx files one after the other and restart.

Screen configurations & layout

Rotating the knob will scroll through the different parameters and screen presets. You can choose between having many parameters in small font or a few in large font or a mix of both.

To change a parameter press on it briefly and turn clockwise to pick another one in its place. It’s also possible to pick an empty parameter to create more free space.  To move a parameters location to the left or right, press and hold and move left or right at the same time.

How to add another device for logging

All LDperformance devices already have canx file describing the CAN protocol. So if you want to add all data from Dash2, simply place the dash2.canx file in the canx folder on the sdcard. On next power up the datalogger will load the file and start logging every parameter described in the file. If the file doesn’t load, it is because it is too big. Edit the file removing useless comments or information or separate it in two files.

What happens if time is lost?

If the CAN Data Logger is switched off for a long period (months) it might forget the time. On next power up it will prompt the user to set the time. Even if not set it will still log data but the filename will not contain the time.

To recharge the battery keep the car running for some time or alternatively keep the device plugged in the USB overnight.

Restore defaults/set CAN speed

  • Press and hold the knob and turn on the device.
  • Choose between configuring time, can speed or restoring default settings.

Troubleshooting & Tips

Stuck loading?

  • The device is likely not stuck—wait at least a minute.
  • The most common causes are an unset time or a full SD card.
  • If the SD card is full, the device will delete the 100 oldest files, which may take some time.

Canx file changes don't come into effect

In order to force-reload the file, delete the corresponding loaded file on the SD card.

Random issues

1. Remove the SD card, save your data and format the SD card in fat32.
2. Restore default settings.
3. Set the correct time.

CANX File Not Loading?

  • Ensure the file is correctly formatted.
  • If the file is too large, remove unnecessary comments or split it into smaller files.
  • If a CANX file update does not take effect, delete the corresponding .loaded file from the SD card and restart the device to force a reload.

Incorrect Time or Timestamp Issues?

  • If the device has been off for a long time, it may lose track of time.
  • Upon power-up, it will prompt you to set the time. If you skip this, filenames won’t contain timestamps, but logging will still function.
  • To recharge the internal battery, run the car for some time or keep the device plugged into USB overnight.

SD Card Not Recognised?

  • Use a high-quality SD card. Avoid low-end brands, as they may cause slow write speeds or errors.
  • Try formatting the SD card to FAT32 before use.

No Data Logging?

  • Verify that the correct CANX files are in the “canx” folder.
  • Ensure the datalogger is properly connected to the CAN bus and receiving data.
  • If problems persist, restore default settings and reconfigure the device.
